How Comfortable Camping Chairs Changed My Views on Camping
I am not an avid fan of camping, never was and probably never will be. My family, on the other hand, are such huge camping fanatics that every year, we go out into the wilderness and rough it out for a week or so. Of course, you will not hear me enthusiastically praising the merits of camping since I never really did see it that way. Camping to me was just an excuse for mosquitoes to feed on me, to sleep in lumpy sleeping bags and to eat packaged food that you simply reheated over an open flame.
Last year, my hubby and my kids started preparing for their annual camping trip with me dreading another week of hard rocks and ground to sit on and mosquitoes to swat off. My husband, however, surprised me with a recent purchase of two adult sized camping chairs which he said might help change my mind about camping. I shrugged his assumptions away, prepared to suffer through this camping ordeal one more time.
When we got to the camping spot we usually went to every year, my hubby quickly set up one of the two folding camping chairs. I looked at him in wonder as he smiled and told me to sit in the red camping lounge chair he just set up as he went to work on the tents. The kids, of course, had gone exploring their usual haunts and were nowhere in sight. I sighed and gave in to my husband's suggestion and sat in what was surprisingly one of the most I have ever sat in. I leaned back and felt the sturdy yet comfortable support of the canvas behind me. I ran my fingers over the smooth aluminum armrests and marveled at how such a light weight camping chair can be so comfortable to sit in.
After my hubby finished setting up the tents and the children came back from their exploration, I reluctantly got up to prepare our campsite meal. I did not feel that bad about packed meals reheated over a campfire then though as I ate my meal while comfortably seated in my new camping chair. My children also had their own comfortable camping chairs in the shape of kiddie camping chairs and my better half had his own camping lounge chair in khaki. That was one camping trip that actually went better than the previous ones I went to years before simply because I had a comfortable chair to spend the week in.
Now, I don't really dread going camping with my boys anymore simply because I know that we will have comfortable camping chairs to relax in. I am, in fact, looking into buying a folding camping table set to bring with us this year to make eating a whole lot easier too. This just goes to show what one comfortable chair can do to help change a person's outlook on camping and the joys it can bring, even if it meant another few days with those mosquitoes.
