At the Smith family reunion, most of the family members actually came. That was a miracle in itself. The camping tables were full of family members, some of who had not seen each other for several years, all for various reasons.
Alex was there, back from Kentucky, where he had been working at a church as their main computer genius. Being the network administrator and web master had kept him busy.
Sitting a few camping tables down was Hope. She had traveled the last few summers and had not seen much of her family for a while. Everyone was glad to see her and hear her many stories of people and places of the United States, from Washington state all the way to Washington, D.C.
Nikita and Eugene were all grown up! Each had graduated from high school and was pursuing a college degree, one in chemistry and one in engineering.
The aunts and uncles were all busy talking to their nieces and nephews. They asked me about my secretarial job. I told them that I enjoyed it very much, along with teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.
Vikki was a college student in Oklahoma where she worked for the executive vice president of a college and was pursing a degree in music. She is giving flute lessons to about ten elementary and junior high girls.
Tanya is also in college, teaching piano to numerous students. She plays for almost every one who sings in church; she is definitely in high demand
Viktor was attending the same college and majoring in secondary education. Soon he will be teaching twelfth grade government and science, along high school math classes during his student teaching career.
My dad, sitting at the next camping table, is a forest ranger in Colorado and is enjoying himself very much. He loves the outdoors, and it has been his dream for years to have such a job. Colorado is a beautiful place to live. Their home is in the mountains, but not too high up. My mom is sewing for a living and doing a great job. She does not need to work too much, and I am glad for that.
Aunt Tonia recovered well from her broken leg and is back to work again. She loves making pies. Her strawberry rhubarb pies are the best! Her sister Faith works at the same grocery store in the salad section. They both enjoy cooking in their spare time.
Alex II is coaching junior high, junior varsity, as well as varsity basketball in a local school. The guys respect and admire him very much; he was good enough to join the NBA but decided to work with young people instead. That was definitely a wise choice for him.
Marianna is attending college in Illinois where she is majoring in elementary education and secretarial. I guess she wants to be prepared for anything in life; that is a good idea—be prepared for anything. She is working on campus at the college as a secretary and enjoying college life very much. Coleman tables surely can bring families back together again! We had a great time at the reunion. |
